“Nothing makes me happier
than to have children playing, being themselves, while I capture
their spirit, their personalities, and their liveliness right
in front of me. It’s these moments, and the images created,
that continue to inspire me and my style of work.”

Mark Brown has been creating pieces of art with his unique approach
to photography for over ten years. He is a photographer by trade; however,
the essence of his work is his performance during each photo session.
Mark’s approach is something that cannot be learned in a text
book; it is in his core. He takes time getting to know each family
and each child that he works with, therefore creating a very special
moment during the photography experience. Mark loves interacting with
children; he immediately gets down to their playing level, he jokes
with them, and has an uncanny ability to calm, and encourage each one
to be themselves. The result? Priceless heirlooms to last for generations.
Mark always dreamed of being a performer or a photographer. Developing
his skills in both trades has led him on a path to achieving his goals.
Early in his career, Mark studied acting in New York City, and soon
thereafter worked on his improvisational skills with the celebrated
theatre group, Second City. Mark credits his love of improv as a perfect
way to reach out and understand everyone who walks into his studio.
He makes each person totally at ease, unaware of
the camera. Mark’s patience ultimately creates the perfect setting
for the entire family. He also takes his style on the road and works
with clients all over the country including New York and Los Angeles.
Mark is well known for his work with children who have special needs.
Often parents are hesitant to take their children to a professional
photographer for fear that they won’t understand their world.
Mark’s
personality and ability to create such a relaxed and fun environment
allows these children to be themselves. He has photographed children
with autism, as well as other physical and emotional challenges.
In his free time Mark, volunteers with organizations such as the Make-A-Wish
and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundations. Mark captured
the beauty of Africa and its’ children on the AIDS Walks he participated
in with the Glaser Foundation. He is most proud of this body
of work. His journeys in Africa were featured on The Oprah Winfrey
Show.
